Red Hot Science Heats Things Up At Adventure Science Center Feb. 23

Nashville, TN (February 14, 2008) - Adventure Science Center is turning up the heat as they explore the science behind all things hot at “Red Hot Science” Saturday, Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Children and their families have the opportunity to make lava lamps, learn about fire safety and discover the secrets of pyrotechnics at this fun-filled day. Additionally, children can show off their skills in Crawl, Drag... Squirt! the Science Center’s firefighter combat challenge for children.

Zambelli Fireworks, the nation’s oldest and largest fireworks company, will present how they create such beautiful displays for events like the New Year’s Eve Ball Drop in Times Square. Cindy Ambuster, Zambelli representative, has over 25 years experience as a licensed pyrotechnician and has taught many how to shoot firework shows.

The Nashville Fire Department will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to educate about fire safety. A J Furnish, Fire Department Public Safety Educator, will present to families how to make a safe fire escape plan and test their smoke detectors with help from “Buzz, the Smoking Fire Alarm.” Children can also try on firemen turnout gear and see a fire engine up close as it makes a stop at the Science Center during the afternoon.

Local chef Chris Gonyo will cook up spicy foods for those brave enough to test their senses. Families have the opportunity to try the various levels of heat with samples comparing peppers. Other activities include making homemade hand warmers and learning how thermometers work.

Special presentations throughout the day will include “The Case of the Warming Earth” and Movie Set Magic, in which visitors can learn how the movies use controlled energy to create their special effects.
