Nashville, TN (Feb 28, 2007) - The theme for this year’s “The Caper”, Adventure Science Center’s annual costume gala, will be ”Science Hits and Misadventures,” a challenge to guests to create clever costumes that conjure some of science’s best moments and greatest missteps.

The evening will include dinner, dancing and a silent auction featuring travel excursions made possible by American Airlines, autographed memorabilia, jewelry, art and home décor items, beauty services, entertainment, fine dining and more. Each year more than half of Caper guests compete in the costume competition which features clever interpretations of the event’s theme. The winner for best costume at the March 10 event will take home the coveted Caper Cup.

“It’s well known that American kids’ math and science proficiency and related career interests have declined,” said Deborah Tannenbaum, 2007 Caper Chair. “Adventure Science Center strives to reverse that trend in our community by igniting kids’ interest in science through creative and interesting ways. The Caper is a yearly celebration of these efforts and each year we’re amazed at the innovation and inspiration our guests bring to the costume competition.”

The Caper will be hosted by Dr. Science, better known to guests as long-time Adventure Science Center supporter Dr. Jerry Tannenbaum; his wife and event chair Deborah Tannenbaum; and all of their lab assistants.

“Both Dr. and Mrs. Tannenbaum are concerned with the education of the children in our community,” said Susan Duvenhage, Chief Executive Officer of Adventure Science Center. “Their commitment to Adventure Science Center helps us expand children’s horizons by introducing them to the various fields of science in a way that is fun and engaging. We are pleased that they will be a part of this special evening.”

Kristin Priesol and Brent Frazier, news anchors for WTVF NewsChannel 5, will serve as the emcees for the evening.

The Caper schedule is as follows:

  • 6:30 to 7:30p.m. - Registration for the costume contest, silent auction and music provided by the Hume Fogg Jazz Band.

  • 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. - The Grand March of the Costumes.

  • 8:30 p.m. - Dinner and delicacies followed by dancing to the sounds of Soul Incision, “The Coolest Scientists in Nashville.”

Diversified Specialty Institutes, Inc (DSI), supports The Caper as the premier sponsor this year. DSI shares the Center’s vision to offer exposure to the various fields of science and medicine to the children in our communities. DSI’s mission is to provide personalized healthcare for patients needing diagnosis and treatment in selected areas of medicine and surgery.

Proceeds from The Caper make it possible for the Center to inspire the minds of tomorrow by keeping educational programs accessible for the diverse community we serve. For information on The Caper, please contact Lindsay Wright at (615) 401-5089 or lwright@adventuresci.com.
