Nashville, TN (Jan 24, 2007) - Do you have an idea for science’s next big invention? If so, create and demonstrate it at Adventure Science Center’s “Create It, Build It and Run It” event on Saturday, Feb. 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Children and their families will have the opportunity to create an invention at home and bring it to the event to showcase from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those interested in the showcase should contact Christy Whitney, public events manager of Adventure Science Center, at (615) 401-5065 or cwhitney@adventuresci.com for registration and a list of regulations.

“We all have ideas for inventions that could make our lives a little easier or more entertaining,” said Whitney. “This event will give kids an opportunity to show off their most imaginative designs. Who knows? We just may come across the next big idea or invention!”

“Create It Build It Run It” will also feature “creation stations” that will allow children to use ordinary household items such as drinking straws, toothpicks, film canisters, plastic plates and balloons to build innovative creations on site. Creations will include gum drop houses, puff mobiles and straw bridges.

Students from Hillwood High School will also be on hand from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to demonstrate their Rube Goldberg Machine, a creation that takes a roundabout approach to a simple task. The machines are named for the Pulitzer Prize-winning artist whose “invention” cartoons satirized the new technologies of his day. This year the Hillsboro students will take a whole orange, juice it, and pour the juice from a pitcher into a cup in no fewer than 20 steps.

Local engineers will also be onsite to engage the youth in hands-on experiments and building projects. The engineers will also provide advice to those interested in pursuing a career in the field.

Admission to the event, sponsored by Tuck-Hinton Architects, Waddey & Patterson, P.C., and First Tennessee Bank., is included with regular admission to the Science Center. The first 250 kids will receive a free gift.
