July 10, 2006 (Nashville, TN) - Don’t miss your chance to taste chocolate-covered creepy crawlies at Adventure Science Center this July. Or if that’s too much to face personally, watch some local radio and television personalities give it a try.

The Center will offer a full day of family fun during “What’s Your Fear Factor: Bugs” Saturday, July 29. Visitors that day will have their courage tested through physical, mental and even some eating challenges. Completion of all three legs of the competition will result in a special prize for those who master their fears of the insect kingdom.

At noon, local radio and television personalities, such as Joe Dubin of WKRN, Nashville’s ABC affiliate, and morning radio show hosts Woody and Jim from WRVW, 107.5 The River, will square off in a celebrity round of insect-themed quizzes and bug eating challenges.

After confronting their bug fears, visitors can make their own scary bug mask; take a turn on a rock climbing slide; or attend the live insect theater show, where they may get up close and personal with Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches and Giant African Millipedes. For a quick snack, chocolate-covered crickets and larvae will be offered to anyone wishing to try munching on real bugs.

“People often fear the things they don’t know much about,” said Christy Whitney, public events manager for the Adventure Science Center. “While we’re having fun with bugs, visitors will also have a chance to learn more about the important roles bugs play in the ecosystem and what their world is all about. And that might make us less afraid of them.”

The festivities begin at 10 a.m. The first 250 kids through the gate will receive a free Adventure Science Center backpack. Everyone can enjoy free snow cones from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
