Nashville, TN - Sometimes it’s stinky; sometimes it’s crusty; and sometimes it’s slimy. It is Grossology LIVE, a new program at Adventure Science Center. Based on the bestselling children’s book Grossology: The Science of Really Gross Things by Sylvia Branzei and the blockbuster science exhibition by the same name, this series of Live Interactive Video Experiences examines the “impolite” science of the human body.

The Adventure Science Center is one of only five organizations across the nation to offer Grossology LIVE. This science-in-disguise series educates and entertains all ages about the science - however ghastly, nauseating and revolting - of those bodily functions that keep us healthy. Grossology LIVE engages participants with a witty and unconventional cast of characters through a combination of live entertainment, wacky learning opportunities, exciting media, and cutting-edge high definition video communications technology from LifeSize Communications.

“Adventure Science Center’s philosophy has been to engage and entertain our guests while teaching them about science,” said Becky Matthews, an ASC educator. “Although we have just begun Grossology LIVE, our visitors are already intrigued with the gooey, disgusting, yet fun atmosphere.”

Adventure Science Center visitors are able to connect with Grossologists at the Grossology LIVE Studios through LifeSize Room™, a high definition video communications product. LifeSize Room delivers crystal clear video clarity and high fidelity audio so participants - no matter where they are located - realize an interactive, true-to-life experience. These “distance edutainment” exchanges use easy to understand language, interactive games, experiments, songs, dialog, and special effects to educate while they entertain. Whether grooving along with Digestive Tract Divas in “Do the (Bathroom) Hustle” or crooning a chord with country-western characters in “A Rootin-Tootin Good Time”, kids and adults will be laughing while learning together.

Grossology LIVE costs $3 per participant in addition to regular ASC admission. The program is open to families, field trips, youth outings and birthday parties according to the following schedule:

• Mondays at noon
• Tuesdays at 1:15 p.m.
• Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 10:45 a.m.
• Saturdays at 12:15 p.m.

In addition to the current programs involving facts about digestion and plenty of bathroom humor, additional Grossology LIVE features about body odor, bodily fluids and mucus will be offered soon.

Funded by the National Science Foundation, Grossology LIVE is produced by the National Association of Health Educations Center and IDSolutions and is presented in cooperation with Columbus Children’s Hospital.

Adventure Science Center’s regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $9.00 for adults, and $7.00 for children ages 3 to 12 and seniors age 65 or older. The Science Center is located at 800 Fort Negley Blvd.
