Nashville, TN - Were you a greaser, hippie, Elvis impersonator, Madonna wanna-be, disco queen or punk rocker? Guests at Adventure Science Center’s annual costume gala, The Caper, will remember a time Back in the Day when they were at their best and dress the part as they dine and dance to the music of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.

The Caper, set for February 25th at Adventure Science Center, will include a silent auction featuring trips, art, and children’s items, as well as the annual costume contest to see who takes home the coveted Caper Cup. Vice Mayor Howard Gentry and wife Sharon, and Sheriff Daron Hall and wife Ginger will judge the costume contest. News Channel 5’s Kristin Priesol and Lelan Statom will emcee the event.

“Just as Adventure Science Center provides unique opportunities for the children of our city, The Caper: Back in the Day offers an equally unique occasion for adults to return to the days of their youth,” said Sunny Spyridon, Caper Chair. “This event truly parallels the science center’s goal of providing fun, out-of-the-ordinary experiences that encourage creativity and innovation.”

Tickets for The Caper: Back in the Day may be purchased by calling Adventure Science Center at (615) 401-5055. Proceeds from The Caper support operations of Adventure Science Center. Last year’s event raised approximately $116,000. This year’s goal has been increased to $130,000.

The Caper schedule is as follows:

  • 6:30 to 7:30p.m. - ‘Swell, Swillin’ Drinks’ and entertainment provided by the Hume Fogg Jazz Ensemble, playing the best of the 50’s and 60’s
  • 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. - ‘Grand March of the Groovy People’ costume contest
  • 8:30 p.m. - Dinner
  • After Dinner - Dancing to the sounds of The Max Headroom Band, playing favorites from the 70’s and 80’s
