Nashville, TN - Adventure Science Center will take children on a spectacular human health odyssey with BodyQuest, a $1.3 million, 3,500 square-foot interactive exhibit packed with lasers, image-altering photography and a gigantic respiratory system. BodyQuest will open in July 2004.

BodyQuest will increase the understanding of the human body and the impact of healthy choices. Three innovative attractions of BodyQuest are:

Body Battles, an interactive laser game, that demonstrates the ongoing struggle inside all of our bodies between health and illness. Lieutenant Lymphocyte leads a team of "good guys" in battle against Private Pathogen's soldiers in a laser target gallery that replicates the immune system. Visitors experience for themselves how the immune system works.

The Wind Pipe invites guests to step into a gigantic model of the human respiratory system to explore the throat, windpipe and lungs. The interior of this larger-than-life respiratory system will engage children's senses with sights and sounds that illustrate the body at work, while hands-on activities direct the way to healthy habits.

The Amazing Aging Machine turns twelve-year-olds into seventy-year-olds in an instant. A face-altering photo booth encourages healthy choices by showing children how factors like smoking affect the aging process.

"BodyQuest weaves together three important themes: Body Systems, Healthy Choices, and Careers in Healthcare," said Ralph Schulz, president and CEO of Adventure Science Center. "For many years, Adventure Science Center has played a role in educating area youth about health through school programming. Now, BodyQuest takes that role to a new level, allowing us to reach a greater number of children and families with hands-on, up-to-date, compelling programming and exhibits that promote health and wellness."

Its hands-on nature will foster healthy habits, ideal for a city that is known as the healthcare capital of the United States. BodyQuest is being funded by private contributions and grants, including support from The HCA Foundation on behalf of HCA and the TriStar Family of Hospitals, Nashville Academy of Medical Alliance (NAMA) and Saint Thomas Health Services.

In keeping with Adventure Science Center's comprehensive approach to expanding young minds, Center staff worked with members of Nashville area school systems, healthcare professionals, and national experts and specialists to develop BodyQuest.

"Leaders in the fields of education and healthcare, along with experts in the exhibit field, are helping Adventure Science Center take education to the next level," said Schulz. "With BodyQuest, we are teaching young people not only about the world around them, but about the world within them." Construction begins this month on the first of two BodyQuest phases. The second phase, which will include even more new action-packed health-related exhibits, is scheduled to open in summer, 2005. The completed BodyQuest will include a series of equally original and thought-provoking exhibits, including the circulatory system, the digestive system and more.
