Learning Expedition Guide

Dear Educators,
Welcome back to a new school year and to Adventure Science Center! There’s a whirlwind of activity going on at ASC!

• Construction continues on our new state of the art Sudekum Planetarium and 12,000 square foot exhibit wing that opens summer 2008.
• Our popular robotic dinosaurs are bigger and better than ever with enhanced animation, better sound and a new habitat.
• In BodyQuest, you and your students can enjoy a new dental exhibit that further impacts that area’s educational value.

Many of you recently participated in a customer service survey and in focus groups aimed to gather information on how ASC can better serve teachers and students. YOU RESPONDED AND WE LISTENED! This year, you’ll find more ASC staff and volunteers on the floor to answer questions and provide more structure during free exploration time. Orientation starts immediately upon your arrival with staff on buses or meeting those arriving in cars in the lobby. Self-guided “scavenger hunts” are also available on our web site. These are aimed at helping teachers and chaperones lead their own mini science quests.

Programmatically, we’ve added more labs and more classroom outreach programs. Also new is our environmental education strand, featuring presentations by specially trained Climate Project educators. These curriculum based programs focus on what students and families can do to reduce their carbon “footprints” and be better at conserving our precious planet.

Once again, we are delighted to be Middle Tennessee’s ‘science place’ of choice and look forward to your visit!
