General Membership Questions

 
Q: How do I purchase Adventure Science Center (ASC) membership?
A: You may join at the front desk on your first visit, go online, or by phone, mail, or fax (click for printable form).

Q: How long will my membership last?
A: A membership is valid for one calendar year from the date of purchase. Members receive an ASC annual renewal notice when it is time to renew a membership. (Back to FAQ)

 
Q: When I buy a membership, when may I begin using it?
A: Your membership is valid at the time of purchase and may be used immediately. If you purchase the membership online, you will receive a confirmation email, which may be used as your proof of purchase. If you purchase your membership at the front desk, you will receive a temporary receipt. If you purchase a membership by mail, you may begin using your membership upon receipt of your membership cards. Please allow at least three (3) weeks for processing if you join by mail. Q: What are the basic benefits of membership?
A: Core benefits include free unlimited General Admission for one year, free or discounted admission to 300+ ASTC museums (view details), half-price Sudekum Planetarium tickets, discounted workshops, labs, camps and birthday parties, and more! Q: Do I need to bring anything with me besides my membership card when I visit ASC?
A: Members must present a valid photo ID with valid membership card each visit to receive member benefits. (Back to FAQ)

 
Q: Are memberships tax deductible?
A: Memberships are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. ASC is a 501(c)(3) private, nonprofit organization. Below is a list of membership values for tax-deduction purposes. Consult with your tax advisor for more details.

Individual: $65 may qualify as a charitable deduction
Household: $76 may qualify as a charitable deduction
Premium Household: $114 may qualify as a charitable deduction
Patron Membership: $150 may qualify as a charitable deduction
Sustaining Membership: $374 may qualify as a charitable deduction
Galileo Donor Circle: $723 may qualify as a charitable deduction
DaVinci Donor Circle: $2,097 may qualify as a charitable deduction
Curie Donor Circle: $4,571 may qualify as a charitable deduction
Einstein Donor Circle: $8,691 may qualify as a charitable deduction

Q: May I make changes to my membership after I have joined?
A: Memberships are non-refundable and cannot be transferred or canceled before expiration. However, contact information updates may be made at any time by contacting the Membership Desk via email at membership@adventuresci.org or by phone at (615) 401-5057. Note: Only the Designated Adult Cardholders on record are permitted to request changes to a membership record. (Back to FAQ)

 
Q: I have moved. How may I change my physical address, phone number, or email address?

Q: Do you share personal information with outside resources?
A: We do not share membership information with any third party. Members also may opt out of ASC direct mail and e-newsletters. (Back to FAQ)
 
Membership Options


Q: What forms of ID are accepted to qualify for an educator discount?
A: Acceptable forms of verification include: Faculty ID, LEA card, valid teaching license/certificate, recent pay stub, or a copy of your “Intent to Home School” form submitted to your local school district. Please note that you must submit verification of your eligibility with each new purchase or renewal. (Back to FAQ)


Q: I am a home school parent. Do I qualify for the educator discount?
A: Yes, ASC’s 10% educator discount applies to independent home school educators. To qualify, please provide a copy of your “Intent to Home School” form submitted to your local school district. (Back to FAQ)


Q: May I bring guests to visit ASC with my membership?
A: Guest privileges are included at the Premium Household level and above. Contact our Membership Desk at (615) 401-5057 to determine the level that is right for you. (Back to FAQ)


Q: Is there a discount on membership purchases for military families?
A: Yes, a 10% military affinity discount may be applied to an Individual, Household or Premium Household membership. Active Duty, Retiree, or Reservist military ID card (DD Form 2 or 2A), Discharge papers (DD-214), or Military Dependent ID card (for spouse or children of Active Duty Military personnel) must be presented at time of purchase. Q: What is the Adventure Access pass and who is eligible?
A: Our Adventure Access pass provides the opportunity for economically disadvantaged Tennessee residents to visit ASC at a reduced rate. Guest add-ons and ASTC reciprocal privileges are not part of the Adventure Access pass program. To be eligible, an individual must provide a photo ID plus proof of participation in a qualifying program (WIC, SNAP, TANF) from the associated agency. Membership Cards
 

Q: When will I receive my membership cards?
A: You should receive your membership cards in your mailbox within 2-3 weeks from the date of purchase. Please note, this may be prolonged during peak seasons. If you do not receive your card within that time, please contact our Membership Desk at membership@adventuresci.org, or by phone at (615) 401-5057. Until your cards arrive, you may present your Photo ID along with your email confirmation or  your purchase receipt . (Back to FAQ)


Q: How many membership cards will I receive?
A: When only one adult is designated on a membership, only one membership card will be issued. When two adults are designated, two cards, each with both adult names, will be issued. This is for member convenience only, so that each adult can keep his or her own copy of the membership card. Please allow 2-3 weeks to receive your membership cards or replacement cards. This may be prolonged during peak seasons. For replacement card requests or questions, call (615) 401-5057, or email us at membership@adventuresci.org. All membership levels provide the opportunity to name up to two (2) cardholders, except the Individual Membership. (Back to FAQ)


Q: What do I do if I lose my membership card?
A: One replacement of lost or stolen membership card(s) will be complimentary. Any additional replacement cards will be assessed a $2 fee. No exceptions. We reserve the right to limit the number of times membership cards will be replaced in any given membership year. Q: May I use my membership without my membership card(s)?
A: You may visit anytime after your purchase simply by presenting a Photo ID for membership verification to the Guest Services staff at the front desk. (Back to FAQ)

Q: What does unlimited General Admission include?
A: General Admission includes access to all regularly scheduled programs, activities, and permanent exhibits (excluding Sudekum Planetarium and BlueMax Flight Simulator). (Back to FAQ)


Q: Where is the Member Express line?
A: The Member Express line is open during peak times to accommodate crowds. Look for the "Members Express" signs when you enter the lobby. (Back to FAQ)


Q: I'm a Member—why do I have to stand in line?
A: All visitors are required to check-in. We use attendance counts to assist us with planning and reporting. (Back to FAQ)


Q: What is the member price for tickets to visit Sudekum Planetarium?
A: Member ticket prices for Sudekum Planetarium are half-off the regular price per person per show. (Back to FAQ)


Q: What is the member price for BlueMax Flight Simulator?
A: Member ticket prices for BlueMax Flight Simulator are $4 per person per ride. (Back to FAQ)


Q: My child is coming with a school field trip. Is he/she able to use the membership?
A: ASC memberships, reciprocal membership, coupons, and special offers do not apply to school group visits due to the additional staffing, supplies, and materials required for field trip visits. (Back to FAQ)


Q: How may I keep up with member events and ASC programs?
A: Member events are held at various times throughout the year. Subscribe to ASC e-news or visit our current calendar of events for up-to-date program information. (Back to FAQ)


Q: Do I need to R.S.V.P. for Member Events?
A: Yes, in most cases we ask that you R.S.V.P. for Member events. Knowing how many members plan to attend helps us to staff appropriately and provide the best possible experience. (Back to FAQ)


Q: Are guests allowed to attend Members-Only events?
A: Member events are exclusive to member households only. Guests are not permitted to attend Members-Only events. (Back to FAQ)


Q: May I give my membership card to friends or family members?
A: Memberships are non-transferable and may not be shared. Memberships are for the named individuals only. Cardholders are required to present a photo ID each visit. NOTE: Cards presented by non-members are subject to confiscation. (Back to FAQ)


Q: May my spouse or partner bring my kids to the Science Center?
A: At least one, but not more than two, adult names must be listed as the Designated Adult(s) on each membership. Memberships are for the exclusive use of those individuals designated on the cards. When there are two Designated Adults listed on a membership, they must be members of the same household. (Back to FAQ)


Q: May my Nanny, Au Pair, or Babysitter bring my kids to the Museum?
A: You may add an unnamed caregiver to your membership for $25. Limit one per membership. Restrictions apply. (Click here for our Caregiver Policy) NOTE: Caregivers' children are not covered under your membership. (Back to FAQ)


Q: May member children come without a parent?
A: All children 16 and under visiting ASC must be accompanied by an adult. You may add an unnamed caregiver to your membership for $25. Limit one per membership. Restrictions apply. (Click here for our Caregiver Policy). (Back to FAQ)


Q: May I purchase a membership for a child?
A: We do not offer membership in the name of a child under 17 years of age. (Back to FAQ)
 
Reciprocal Membership Benefits

Q: How does the ASTC Passport Program work?
A: ASC members have reciprocal admission privileges with other participating science and technology centers. Each institution has its own admissions policy, so call before you visit to get the details. Reciprocity extends only to general admission—it does not include free admission to additional attractions such as special exhibits, planetarium shows, simulator rides or giant-screen films. It also does not usually include museum store discounts. Click here for link to a list of the ASTC reciprocating facilities along with more information about the program. NOTE: Please familiarize yourself with all the rules applying to reciprocity with the ASTC Passport Program before you purchase your membership. Organizations may change their participation in the reciprocity program; we do not offer refunds due to changes in reciprocity. (Back to FAQ)


Q: What is ASTC?
A: ASTC stands for the Association of Science and Technology Centers. Adventure Science Center is a member of ASTC. (Back to FAQ)


Q: Does ASC honor ACM or AZA memberships?
A: ASC does not participate in the ACM or AZA reciprocity programs. ASC is a member of ASTC. (Back to FAQ)


Q: Where may I find a list of the ASTC participating museums and science centers?

Q: I am going out of town. How do I use my ASC membership?
A: ASC members have reciprocal admission privileges with other participating science and technology centers. Simply present your active ASC Membership Card and Photo ID at the ticket desk. Each institution has its own admissions policy, so call before you visit to get the details. Reciprocity extends only to general admission—it does not include free admission to additional attractions such as special exhibits, planetarium shows, simulator rides or giant-screen films. If you are going out of town and don’t have your ASC membership card, let us know. (Note: Replacement fees may apply for lost cards.) Q: I'm visiting from out of town. How do I use my membership from another ASTC facility?
A: If you are a member from another ASTC museum visiting ASC, present a current membership card from your hometown museum or science center and a valid photo ID (showing home address within 90 miles of host museum). You will receive free general admission for up to two (2) adults and up to four (4) children (under 18 years old) in the same household. Guests are not included in our reciprocal policy, and general admission fees apply. PLEASE NOTE, we do not have a reciprocal agreement with any Tullahoma museums. Q: May I use my membership at another local museum or science center?
A: No, to receive ASTC Passport Program benefits, you must reside more than 90 miles from the center/museum you wish to visit. The ASTC Passport Program is intended to reward families who support their local science center or museum by giving them a benefit they may use while traveling or visiting out-of-town friends or relatives. Q: How many family members will get in for free?
A: Each Passport venue has its own admissions policy (denoted by “F:” on the participants list) that lets you know which and how many family members receive free admission when you visit. It’s a good idea to review the admission policy before visiting so you know what to expect. ASC’s ASTC reciprocal policy includes free general admission for up to two (2) adults and up to four (4) children (under 18 years old) in the same household. Renewing your membership
 

Q: How do I know when my membership expires?
A: Your expiration date is printed on your membership card. Memberships to ASC are valid for one full year. As your expiration date nears, you will receive renewal notices via mail or email. (Back to FAQ)


Q: If I renew my membership before my expiration, do I lose months I had left?
A: Your membership runs an entire calendar year from the date of purchase. If you renew early, the new membership begins when your old membership expires. (Back to FAQ)

Gift Memberships
 

Q: How do I buy a gift membership for someone?
A: Gift Memberships are available at the Front Desk. You may also purchase a gift membership online, by phone at (615) 401-5057, or download a form and mail it in. If you purchase your gift membership online, by phone, or by mail, please be prepared to provide information about the gift recipient (Cardholder Names, Address, Phone Number).(Back to FAQ)


Q: I do not know all of the gift recipient’s information. May I still purchase a Gift Membership?
A: Yes. We’ll provide you with an attractive Membership Activation certificate that you can give to the intended recipient. To activate their gift membership, they simply present that certificate on their first visit and our Guest Services Staff will collect all the information we need.  (Back to FAQ)


Q: When may the recipient of my gift start using their membership?
